Festivals – a lot of fun for the whole family
The trend is that more festivals make an effort to make the kids feel as welcome as the grown-ups. Why not visit a festival on your next family vacation? Our favorite festivals and annual happenings for kids in all ages. We hope to hear about your best tip as well.
USA, Houston: Houston Childrens Festival – Shows, concerts and a lot of fun for kids. Check their web page: Houston Childrensfestival
NORWAY, Oslo: Mini-ØYA , a music festival dedicated for families and kids. The volume is lower than in an ordinary festival, but the feel-good atmosphere is great for both kids and grown-ups with a lot of activities in addition to the concerts (such as theaters, crafting station, dance performances and more). The favorite amongst our little troupers. We highly recommend you to put it on your to-do-list.
USA New York City: Summer Stage for Kids, Free concerts and shows for the whole family – in some of the nicest park in NYC. Our little guinea-pigs loved it! NYC Summerstage for Kids
CANADA: Ottawa, Les Grand Feux – Casino du Lac-Leamy. ‘Recognized as one of the top 100 events in North America. Experience fireworks as you never have before. International pyromusical (fireworks synchronized to an original soundtrack). Les Grand Feux
FRANCE: Annecy,On the first Saturday of August, the Bay of Albigny welcomes the biggest pyrotechnic show of Europe. 70 minutes of fireworks in rhythm with music, lights and special effects. A special show we think the whole family will enjoy! Annecy Lake Festival
NORWAY, Ålesund, Giske: Sommerfesten på Giske . A few years back this started as a bring your friends get-together on a small island just outside Ålesund, but the friends of friends family party was so great that this has grown rapidly to a big happening. UK, Lulworth Castle, between Bournemouth, Dorchester and Weymouth: The festival won the Best Family Festival at UK Festival Awards for the past two years. Unfortunately, we have not been able to check this one out yet, but we have heard that is a great place to be in August. Read more at the Camp festival home page.
UK, London: Family Party at Notting Hill Carnival Notting Hill Carnival
Norway, Oslo: Oslo Culture Night. Best suited for families with bigger kids. An annual event where over 100 of Oslo’s cultural institutions extend their opening hours into the night and host unique events within music, theater, art, literature and film. Denmark, Copenhagen: “Christmas in Tivoli” is both a traditional Christmas market with approx 50 stalls selling gifts, decorations, sweets and hot drinks to keep you warm and a Christmas universe showing both a spectacular Russian fairy tale featuring a Russian village and St. Basil’s Cathedral and a Nordic wonderland with a splendid Christmas tree as the focal point. They also have six special Christmas rides, which will not be available in the summer season.
